The Rucksack Project is a cause very close to Kapara founder Daisy’s heart. When she launched Kapara in 2015, Daisy was living in Jaipur and teaching English and Maths at a local street children shelter. This shelter supports young boys - many of whom have been trafficked from Bihar and forced to work unpaid, unimaginably long hours in harsh factory conditions.
The shelter works closely with local police to rescue boys from these factories, offering safety, education, and emotional support as they rebuild their lives and reconnect with their families. Whilst working here, Daisy was deeply moved by how the boys shared everything - right down to toothbrushes, towels and notebooks.
That’s when The Rucksack Project was born. Through every Kapara sale, we gift each boy who arrives at the shelter a rucksack filled with everyday essentials like toiletries and school supplies - something they can call their own and take with them when they return home.
