OUR CRAFT
In Jaipur we work with a variety of artisans including block printers, weavers, embroiderers, tailors and artists, most of whom have been with us since the start of Kapara. In a bid to protect artisanal craft, sustain the quality of our products and commit to ethical trade, we focus on building lasting relationships with our suppliers, rather than chasing cheaper production prices.
BLOCKPRINT
Block printing is an ancient and intricate textile art that dates back centuries, known for its rich heritage and cultural significance in Indian craftsmanship. The process begins with skilled artisans meticulously carving intricate patterns into wooden blocks by hand. Each block represents a different element of the design. Once the block is complete, it is dipped in natural or eco-friendly dyes and carefully hand-pressed onto fabric, one imprint at a time. This labor-intensive method requires a high level of skill, patience, and precision to ensure consistency and beauty in every piece. At Kapara London, we celebrate this timeless technique by incorporating hand block-printed textiles into our collections, honouring the artistry and traditions passed down through generations.
WEAVING
Our Dhurrie accessories are handwoven using age-old techniques in rural villages near Jaipur. These flat-weave textiles are crafted on traditional looms by skilled artisans, many of whom come from farming communities. During the early mornings, they tend to their fields, and in the afternoons, they dedicate their time to weaving, balancing agricultural and artisanal livelihoods. This harmonious blend of farming and craftsmanship not only sustains their families but also preserves the rich textile heritage of Rajasthan. Through our partnerships, we are proud to support these artisans and promote sustainable, ethical production practices that value both people and the planet.
TAILORING
Our highly skilled and experienced tailors are the backbone of our production process, bringing unmatched craftsmanship and precision to every garment we create. With a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of traditional and contemporary tailoring techniques, they ensure that every stitch, seam, and finish meets the highest standards of quality. We’ve had the privilege of working with this dedicated team for over six years, building strong relationships based on mutual respect, trust, and shared values. Their expertise not only guarantees consistency and excellence across our collections but also plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity of our designs. By partnering long-term with our tailors, we support fair wages, safe working conditions, and ethical employment practices - ensuring that the people behind our products are valued as much as the pieces themselves. Their commitment, skill, and passion are woven into every item, reflecting the heart and soul of Kapara London.
SCREEN PRINTING
Screen printing is a traditional, hands-on technique where designs are transferred onto fabric using a mesh screen, ink, and a squeegee. Each colour is applied separately, requiring precision and skill to ensure perfect alignment. The process involves preparing a screen with a light-sensitive emulsion, applying ink through the open design areas, and then drying and setting the print for durability. Celebrated for its vibrant results and slight variations that make each piece unique, screen printing is a sustainable, artisan craft that preserves cultural heritage and supports slow fashion.
ART
We’re proud to collaborate with a wonderful family-owned business based in the heart of the Old City. With generations of artistic heritage, this skilled family brings our creative vision to life through stunning, one-of-a-kind artworks that celebrate traditional Indian craftsmanship. Each piece is completely unique, meticulously hand-painted using stone-wash pigments and an incredibly fine brush-stroke technique on parchment paper. This delicate and time-honoured process demands patience, precision, and passion - qualities that are evident in every finished artwork.
