There’s something truly magical about being in Jaipur during Diwali. The whole city seems to come alive — streets shimmer with golden lights, the air hums with laughter and music, and there’s a sense of joy and togetherness everywhere you turn.

For those who don’t know, Diwali, or the Festival of Lights, is one of India’s most celebrated festivals. It symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. Families come together to decorate their homes, exchange gifts, light diyas, and share sweet treats. The celebrations stretch over several days, with fireworks, festive meals, and time spent with loved ones.
Here in Jaipur, Diwali feels extra special. The Old City transforms into a glowing wonderland — every shop and building is dressed in lights and colour. There’s a friendly competition among shopkeepers to create the most dazzling display, and it’s a delight just to wander through and take it all in. Our personal favourite this year was the LMB sweet shop, which went above and beyond with its decorations (and, of course, its irresistible sweets!).

We also celebrated at the girls’ school. It’s become a really special tradition for us to spend time at the school during Diwali, sharing in the celebrations with the girls and their teachers.

As night fell, we walked through the Old City, surrounded by lights, music, and the crackle of fireworks in the distance. It was a reminder of how special this time of year is — a celebration of community, generosity, and light in all its forms.
